One Degree of Hitler with Glenn Beck
I have a short list of crazy Glenn Beck video clips that I've been collecting for a post explaining how Beck's ideology represents everything that's wrong with the far right. But last night I saw this video, highlighting Beck's ever-present, reductio ad hitlerum arguments, which just sums it up perfectly. If ever this man's incoherent fear-mongering was perfectly and hilariously displayed, it is here:

Ridiculous comparison's to Hitler are, well, ridiculous. But that doesn't mean it's not useful as a tool. Here's a quote I've shared before by economist Bryan Caplan:
ReplyDelete"Linking views you don't like with Hitler is of course the ultimate political cheap shot. But as an economist, I don't mind buying cheap, especially if the quality is good."
Sure, it's a great tool if you wanna look like a tool.
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm not Caplan's biggest fan. Since he's an economist, he should know the costs of a Hitler comparison far outweigh the benefits. But I guess since he believes people are systematically biased to be irrational, he's not afraid to use irrational comparisons. :)
